General Terms

  • API: Devices and applications communicate using APIs, which act as messengers that relay requests between applications. APIs are commonly used to connect third-party applications.
  • ASN (eCommerce): A notification sent by the fulfillment provider to Supadu, which can trigger an email to the client confirming shipment, including tracking details.

  • Assets: Digital resources like PDFs, EPUBs, MP3s, or links, sent via ONIX along with book metadata.

  • Backend Developer: Also known as B/E or PHP developers, they handle metadata and data feeds.

  • BaseCamp: A project management tool for tracking progress and fostering collaboration among developers, project managers, and clients.

  • CSS: Cascading Style Sheets, used to style and layout web pages—e.g., adjusting fonts, colors, spacing, columns, and adding animations.

  • Data Localization: Accurate translation of metadata into other languages for SEO. Native language metadata ensures search engine visibility.

  • Deployment: The process of pushing updates from development or staging environments to live sites. Changes are tested thoroughly before deployment.

  • Feed: Also known as a Data Feed, it provides structured, up-to-date information (e.g., ISBNs and book details). Customizations are possible.

  • Frontend Developer: Referred to as F/E, they focus on the design and user interface of websites.

  • FTP: File Transfer Protocol used for transferring ONIX files, CSVs, book covers, and author images to Supadu’s FTP environment.

  • Google Sheet Data: An alternative for clients unable to send ONIX files. It can supplement ONIX with metadata like retailer links or additional resources.

  • HTML: Hypertext Markup Language, a foundational web development language.

  • Jira: A tool for clients to report issues, requests, or questions (tickets) directly to the support team for tracking and resolution.

  • ONIX: An XML format for bibliographic data.

    • Full ONIX: A comprehensive record of all published or forthcoming titles, including updates.
    • Delta ONIX: A record of updates or changes to previously submitted data, often sent weekly.
  • Open Access (OA): Freely available digital information, often used by university presses to share research. Contact us for implementation details.

  • Open Source: Freely available technology or information without copyright restrictions.

  • Product Details Page (PDP): A page displaying product information and purchase options. Also called the Book Details Page.

  • PO (eCommerce): A Purchase Order file sent to the fulfillment provider when a purchase is made.

  • POA (eCommerce): Purchase Order Acceptance, confirming receipt of a PO file.

  • Scrapers: Bots used to extract data from websites, including HTML and database content, for replication.

  • Slider/Hero Banner: A prominent web banner image, either static (hero banner) or scrollable (slider banner).

  • SSL: Secure Socket Layer encrypts data transmission for security.

  • SSL Certificate: Ensures your site’s SSL protocol is up-to-date. Certificates require renewal, with notifications provided.

  • Supply Chain Metadata: Metadata sent to business partners, including pricing, availability, territories, and discounts.

  • SVG: Scalable Vector Graphic files for rendering 2D images online.

  • Title ID: A unique identifier grouping all versions and formats of a title.

  • Transition Period: A 30-day window post-site launch for reporting incomplete promised work (not for new features or bugs).

 

Website Elements

  • Imprints: Smaller subdivisions within publishers. We offer imprint page building on both WP and SP.

  • Series List Page: A type of search results page displaying a series.

  • Collections: Groups of ISBNs appearing under the “collections” filter in search results.

    • Automated Collections: Rule-driven, based on metadata (e.g., New Releases, Coming Soon).
    • Manual Collections: Manually created and updated collections.
